“Knowing others is wisdom. Knowing the Self is enlightenment. He who overcomes others is strong. He who overcomes himself is mighty. He who knows he has enough is rich. He who stays where he is endures. Perseverance is an attribute of the will. To die but not to be destroyed is to be eternally present.” — Tao Te Ching
At Blue Ridge Kung Fu Arnis Academy, we teach many arts. No single art fits every person the same way because no two people are the same. As my teachers teacher would say, “we don’t all wear a size 44 coat”.
Who can do Kung Fu? Anyone! Kung Fu students come in all shapes and sizes. Kung Fu is fun for kids! Kung Fu does not require brute strength. In fact, women and children often learn good technique quicker than men who are accustomed to relying on muscle. Proper technique includes circular redirection of an attacker’s motion and economy of one’s own movement. Our arts adapt to suit your needs!
We take a well rounded approach to Marital Arts training covering all aspects of fighting, healing, health and wellness. We teach both Internal and External arts as well as the historical background from which our arts come. We have a very long lineage in the Chinese Martial Arts dating back to the Emperor of the Sung Dynasty. We are proud to represent this long tradition and only seek to further spread it and help it to grow. Just a few of the arts taught within our schools are; Sil Lum Gong Fu, Emperor’s Long Fist Gong Fu (Tai Chi, Hsing I & Ba Gua), Sasamba Kali Arnis, Suai Jiao, Tibetan Lama, Wing Chun, Yun Chun, Choi Li Fut, Muay Thai, Pentjak Silat, Iron Gong, Nei Gong, Chi Gong, 5 Family Fist, and many more.
Why so many? Because since none of us are the same, our art must become “Personal”. We are not out to win tournaments or put on a good show. We seek to survive in all facets of life. We seek health and well being. We seek to spread the beauty of our arts. Whether you train with us or train somewhere else, the lifelong pursuit of these ancient lessons can only enrich you physically, mentally or spiritually.
